Hedorah - Detroit

Crushing Sludge/Doom/Death from Detroit

The Dead Youth - Writhing

Crushing death metal riffs played at sluggish speeds. The Dead Youth's music is a mixture of extremes encompassing everything that was on the extreme metal map at the time (well, except black metal). When they do break from their prehistoric pacing they do so without warning and break into blisteringly fast runs of shredding death.

I'm not doing this album any justice so you should just CHECK IT OUT!

Hedorah

Hedorah is a sludge spewing deathbeast based out of Detroit Michigan. Created to combat the dying heavy music scene and those that seek to pervert it with synthcore heresy. The staple of their sound: screaming tube amplifiers, low-slung doom/sludge riffs and face-ripping death and grind infusions. The sound is simultaneously modern and still archaically occult in nature. Loud fucking riffs played with power; the way heavy music is supposed to sound.

I'm assuming that if you regularly check or read this blog that you'll enjoy our music.

Galaxicon

Been a while since I've updated (without it being removed), so I thought I'd treat you guys to some of the ol' slow'n'grimey. Galaxicon seems to be a relatively young band from anything that I can tell, their earliest material that I can find being from 2010. They've got a nice ethereal doom sound reminiscent of Unearthly Trance and slower High on Fire. But the fun doesn't stop there, they've got some death metal vocals that sneak into the mix and tear shit up; the best example is mid-way through their track 'Rapture of The Deep'. This young band from Tennessee shows a lot of promise so keep an eye on them. Pound some Jack and blast these jams.

Fister - Bronsonic

Charles Bronson is a bad mother fucker, and now he's overthrown Satan himself to bring you some bong-ripping doom laden with blackened atmospherics and EyeHateGod worship. Bronsonic is a good example of a new band putting their best foot forward into the crowded fray of modern sludge bands. The more and more that form, the more convoluted and bastardized the genre becomes. Luckily Fister are here to kick everyone's ass back into gear. Imagine if you will a healthy mixture of Dopethrone, Take As Needed For Pain and Suma's Let The Churches Burn; this shit rips. Fister blurs the line between sludge and doom with big riffs and nasty-as-fuck gnarly noisework. If you're looking for something to spark up to or maybe just need a good bit of music to put on at your next black mass, then this is it.

HAIL SATAN! HAIL FISTER!

Admiral Angry - A Fire To Burn Down The World

One song. One twenty-four trek into death. Written by a man coming to terms with his own impending demise; Admiral Angry's 'A Fire To Burn Down The World' is a postmortem anthem to the band's fallen comrade and guitarist: Dan. Listening to this album is like drinking the blackest tea steeped in cold blood. A devastatingly primal adventure through the needle-scared underbelly of american life. If you want sincere anger in music then this is the place. This is raw and unhindered animosity and disgust distilled into musical form.

DIE

And now, a word from the band. Albeit this news is old I feel it's vastly appropriate to post this here for those not familiar with Admiral Angry.

Alright,

Since I don't have nearly enough time to respond to the e-mails about "the future of admiral" and since I don't want to play favorites, you ALL get to find out at the same time. August 15th we pack our amps and guitars and head to Wet 'n Dry studios to finally record A Fire to Burn Down the World. Soon after, the album will be packaged and distributed by Shelsmusic.

For those of you who are unaware of the situation the band is in, Daniel Kraus (or to those who knew him, THE Admiral) passed away earlier this year leaving us with one last piece of material, which is A Fire. This is not Buster pt. 2, nor is it ten songs sloppily put together to be forgotten. It's a mammoth of an album. One 30 minute long song, meant to punish you for all the bad things you've done in your bedroom. A Fire is not meant for everyone, but is being released for the one person that had the determination to set this world ablaze before he left it.

As for the aftermath, we are still determining whether we will be playing specific shows that have been offered to us...the main obstacle being funding. We are all honored by the surprising response to Buster, by both the fans and the media.

Finally, as a reminder, ALL of the profits earned from "Buster" and "A Fire to Burn Down the World" will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis fund. As it was, and as it always will be, we hope you find our music most unpleasant.

Dead In The Dirt - Vold

Dead In The Dirt are yet another band emerging from the grinding sludge pond of existence. Frighteningly jarring tempo changed take you from head-spinning speeds to devastating slowness while the guitars writhe and scream in agony over clanky crust bass and d-beat drums that slam out the heaviness with raunchy intensity.

Suma - Let The Churches Burn

Suma has big guns behind the solemn cover that adorns the album. Slow-rolling thunder that swims and writhes in a scaly fuzz-covered skin; this behemoth treads softly when it needs to and turns into a full on stampede when the time is right. With guitars reminiscent of Unearthly Trance you know those riffs have gotta be heavier than a black hole filled with fat chicks.

Face Down In Shit - Shit Bloody Shit [200th Post!]

To add to the seemingly endless stream of sludge that pours from the this blog I've decided that it's about time I posted some Face Down In Shit. This album opens with a surprisingly soft and beautiful intro that leads into some good rockin' while slowly building up to a doomed-out thrash attack. Who would've thought that sludge could even get to these speeds? Like sharks with jetpacks, these riffs fly hot out of the gate hungry for danks and sluts the likes of which you've never seen. With bleak song titles you'd be hard pressed to find things about this album that don't seem to drip with a sense of triumph over the shitfight of an existence we share.

For Fans of: Seven Sisters of Sleep, The Fucking Wrath, Barn Burner and Dopefight

THANK YOU to all of the people that have supported and shared this blog over the time that it's been up. It means a lot to me to see that there are people out there who still crave new music as much as I do. Through this blog I've met a lot of great people in music and hopefully that will continue for as long as this goes on. For those of you that have always wandered back here and scampered back off into cyberspace, this one's for you. Stay positive. Stay smart. Stay high. Stay alive.

Dot[.] - Life's A Bitch

Dot[.] does sludge right. They capture that feeling of pure hatred for mankind. Riff after riff reigns down like hellfire from above leaving only scorched landscape in its wake. ULTRA fuzzed out production digs a subsonic hole beneath your listening post just to shake your fucking brain until you die of an aneurysm. For those of you familiar with the feeling of waking up dopesick, covered in puke and cigarette ashes will dig this record above all else. This is an anthem to the burn outs and losers; a flag to sway for all time above the drugged out masses. Those japs may be hoarding Monster Hunter Frontier for themselves but at least they export shit like this.

I WANT TO DIE

Elitist - Elitist

Maddeningly chaotic and noisy hardcore with bits of sludge and grind thrown in. A torrent of razor-sharp guitars rip through you like ginsu knives slathered in nanobots. Slower sections chug along with a serpentine groove. If you like your shit quick and to the point then this is for you.

Seven Sisters of Sleep - S/T

After a heads up from my friend Joe Sharpe, these dudes spilled into my lap like a steaming hot pot of curry. Their fast brand of doom and stoner puke comes out swinging like a gang of crusties after listening to EHG and Saviours on repeat for a week. While their catalog may be short, the riffs on this record bring them to the forefront of heaviness right now. With songs like 'Monastaries' and 'CCEC' standing at the top of this pile, there's a lot of great bits to keep you crawling back for more punishment.

Mass Grave/Stormcrow Split

Another Stormcrow post. Also this is my first mention of one of the best Crustgrind bands on the move today: Mass Grave. These dudes absolutely melt face with their filthy concoction of devastating death metal-infused Crustgrind. As for the Stormcrow side of this split, you guessed it! It's fucking awesome.

GET YA DICK SPLIT

Stormcrow/Coffins Split

When it comes to disgusting death/doom there is no topping Coffins as they reign supreme with monolithic riffs and a absolutely savage tone. As for Stormcrow, their wholesome homebrew of death metal, crust, doom and sludge will shake any skyscraper loose from its foundation. This split is a combination of some of the heaviest music being produced today. Stormcrow's single epic track 'Path To Defeat' will split your molars while the remaining Coffins song will devour your mangled corpse. Absolutely essential for your collection.

Deathcrawl - The End is Not Near Enough

What do you think of when I say Ohio? That's right, a big sludgy ass vortex of terrible weather and ill-tempered bar attendants (also The Pretenders, Tool and Devo if you're a douche like me). Well Deathcrawl apparently was so inspired by the ugliness of Ohio that they managed to produce a maxilla-smashing (can you IMAGINE if that shit got smashed? For fuck's sake, you wouldn't die but you'd by puking blood, teeth and upchucked esophageal tissue for months to come) record. Fantastic low-end and vocals that for some reason remind me of Deicide. Pretty good stuff.

Admiral Angry - Buster

This is one of my all time favorite records and it's kind of a surprise that it has taken me this long to get it up here. Imagine a world where Meshuggah, Khanate and The Abominable Iron Sloth have a baby. We'll call this baby 'Buster'. If you want absolute desperation in your music, you've found it. Written by one of their dying band members as his life was literally slipping through his fingers. This album is an embodiment in hatred in all of its splendor and glory. All of that loathing and teeth-gnashing animosity shoved down your throat. The guitars are merciless, pretty much akin to being clubbed in the face repeatedly with a broken parking meter by some 20-foot tall scaly behemoth. The drums are rhythmically complex when they need to be and brain-splatteringly simple when they don't. If you're not going to play this at max volume then you're a fucking pussy and probably shouldn't download this.

Do me a favor.

Fucking kill yourself.

Gargantula - Infinitasm

Gargantula's brand of riff heavy doom metal seems to include influences from all over the map. With bits that sound like death metal, thrash and straight-forward sludge their sound is a seething amalgamation of metallic intensity. With moments that seem to flutter with frightening speed before snapping to a tar-covered crawl 'Infinitasm' seems like a vortex of temporal shifting and topsy-turvy guitar work.

GET LIFTED

Rabbits comin' soon

After being totally underwhelmed by the write-ups on these guys I decided to give 'em a listen first hand before completely dismissing a new member of the Relapse family. After listening to the track available here I can really hear that straight-forward Melvins worship along with hints of bands like EyeHateGod (I've been name-dropping them waaaay too much recently when it comes to new Relapse bands), Thrones and Sleep percolating through the mixture.

Dukatalon - Saved By Fear

Now you know me, I fucking hate Israel but I love sludge. Well as always, I never let anything get in the way of my hunger for low-end skull-rattling riffs. 'Saved By Fear' has been made available stateside through the witchcraft weaving bastards at Relapse Records after its initial release back in 2009. Well the record starts off with a swell of noise and feedback and then quickly rolls into riffs that bulldoze through your head like a rhinoceros on coke. The vocals are low in the mix and add more aggression rather being upfront and in your face. The band plays with High On Fire/EyeHateGod style guitar-work while the drums bang along rather competently. The solos however sound eerily similar(and I mean damn near plagiarism) to Matt Pike's. This ain't a bad thing but here in the sludge world, we don't need more imitators. With all of that aside this record is an absolutely mammoth collection of sick riffs and the fact that it came from the middle east is an added bonus.

FUCK ISRAEL

Mammoth Grinder Discography

If a band were to ever become the embodiment of pure heaviness, it would be Mammoth Grinder. Sledgehammer riffs swing over wrecking ball-like drums with one intention: to devastate your eardrums. With influences like Evoken, EyeHateGod, Neurosis, Iron Monkey and Dismember you gotta know that they're not fucking around. There will be no mercy, nothing short of utter and complete destruction.
