Grave Miasma - Exalted Emanation

Grave Miasma deliver sickening death metal in the vein of acts like Incantation and Immolation. Sluggish rhythms slam their way through your head while the ghastly guitar tone rips your mind apart. Grave Miasma pull of the 'so-fast-it's-slow' mechanic really well and the tempo juxtapositions create a warp of pure death metal gravity; bone-crunchingly heavy. If you like show-no-mercy death metal Grave Miasma is for you. Pure darkness en musica.

Azarath - Blasphemers Maledictions

What is it about Poland that helps bands produce such great blackened death metal? There has to be something in their water. Azarath's new album blends Bathory-esque black metal with death metal from all over the map. This album is FAST but not to the point where it becomes incomprehensible. The pacing of the drums is met perfectly by the machine gunning guitars and commanding leads. Though don't worry this isn't some blast fest, the drummer does well enough to bring the more rhythmic elements of death metal percussion in to make some really great Immolation-esque stops and starts. This album deserves your time.

Crucifier - Stronger Than Passing Time

Crucifier wields a multi-faceted weapon; one that hits hard with faceripping riffs and at times, traditional melodies that cut through the chaos to ring out in triumph. The blend of black metal and death metal on this record is damn near a perfect mixture. Great songwriting keeps everything moving forward while the record stretches out to embrace other influences such as doom and more down-to-earth thrash. This album manages to do very well to encompass all the niches in the extreme metal family tree without forcing it.

Impetuous Ritual - Relentless Execution of Ceremonial Excrescence

Have you ever wished to taste the forbidden knowledge that lies outside of existence? Have you ever wanted to drift weightlessly through hellish holes of blackness and screaming sine waves? Impetuous Ritual offers you all of that and more. Relentless Execution of Ceremonial Excrescence molds the deafening roar of the likes of Portal with the blasphemous cantrips of Incantation, Disembowelment and Immolation. The arcane atmosphere dissolves into pure chaos as the guitars create a cacophonous din of pure otherworldly animosity. There is no other emotion here, there is only terror. The wild fjords of space give way to blasting drums and horrific vocals that conjure nameless things from the walls of eldritch sound slithering forth from your speakers. Pure evil.

Lightning Swords of Death - The Golden Plague

Lightning Swords of Death has managed to capture all of the raw aspects of extreme metal and blend it into an unstoppable char-black alloy. The riffs blaze and burn, the vocals shriek and wail, the drums pound out their war-bringing fury all while the atmospheric production of this offering adds a chilling darkness. If you like blackened death with lots of thrash and doom elements then this is going to tear your skull apart.

The Chasm - Farseeing The Paranormal Abysm

'Farseeing The Paranormal Abysm' may be a mouthful but thankfully their music gets straight to the point. The guitar work doesn't feel the need to forsake technicality to maintain a raw feel, instead their clean-cutting leads slice and dice while the demonic basslines maintain an oppressively malevolent vibe to the music. The drums are top notch for their field, while you may not be wowed by his inventiveness you'll still probably fawn over his tight attack and precision. While The Chasm has an occult sound, their dark vibes come from the songwriting and riffs rather than recording through a shitty microphone and letting the lo-fi aspect of the music take precedent over actual musicianship. This is a truly well-put together release. With great pacing and strangely relieving segues you'll find yourself putting this on a lot.

Portal Discography

I've been updating a lot today but I feel like adding one more to the pile. Portal is one of those bands that defy classification and for the most part; music as a whole. They create massive soundscapes with riffs that rip like death metal and chill to the bone like black metal. With their 'so fast it's drone' style of playing they shake your brainstem with plenty of golgothan style flights of absolute sonic blasphemy. These Australians know what the fuck is up.

Soul Devour - Apocalyptic Anti-Human Annihilation

Soul Devour's brand of Singapore-born thrashing death is a throat-burning blend of fast riffs, catchy song structures and wraith-like vocals. These dudes know how to write an album that'll have you blasting it over your stereo and air-drumming along in no time. The album is pretty straightforward so instead of hearing me over-zealously slobber all over it why don't you just give it a listen.

Ofermod - Tiamtü

Ofermod brings a lot to the table with this release; relentless Death-infused Black Metal with guitars that rip and tear through any opposition. With Morbid Angel-esque riffing and imagery this band tries to combine the golden age of Death Metal with the silver age of Black Metal; quintessential sounds and ideas from both important eras, combining them into one unstoppable killing machine. The vocals are mixed PERFECTLY on this record, lending their spite and malice to the heavier parts and their haunting croon to the slower parts. While there's not much new here, there's a LOT done right.

Denouncement Pyre - World Cremation

Blackened Death Metal from Down Unda'h. These guys mix the trem-picked madness of Incantation with the raw chaos of old school Black Metal. This album stops at nothing when it comes to bringing you to your knees with evil concentrated into riff form. Track after track inspires images of war and the fiery depths of the abyss. Vocals seethe with vulgarity as they slither over the thorn-covered guitars. This album contains what a lot of Black Metal-influenced acts lack, a to connection their roots and great song-writing dynamics. A must-have metal release for 2010.

Encoffination

A band with some of the best eerie atmosphere around. Grim guitars slither over a tumult of drums while cantrips slip from the lips of witches and warlocks alike amidst the cacophony of rattling chains and tolling bells. This band has combined the fire and brimstone approach of the likes of Incantation with the doomy aural onslaught of Funeral and Ahab. Their debut EP was a valiant effort to blend the new and old into something a bit more whole-sounding than most of the shitty Incantation-worship bands that are beginning to plague the scene more and more these days. Riffs crawl out of your speakers like blight-white spiders, spinning heavy webs of ambiance. Great new band.

Seventh Temple Of Laodicean Scripture EP

Beyond Hell - The Sleeper Awakens

Beyond Hell is another great piece of the 'Weird Tales'-stylized canon that surrounds some of the better bits of Death Metal being released at the moment. Each track stinks of old ink, cheap comics, mothballs and things most unearthly. From the haunting opening to the thunderous finish, this album is a solid chunk of goregasmic rapture. If you're looking for variety, this isn't the place; what this album lacks for in the originality department it more than makes up for with riffs and grim atmosphere. A fun Death Metal record to toss on during that Halloween season for all you girthy Halloweiners.

DID WE MENTION: It comes with their sold out EP '...And Evil Crept Through'?
